Ever since I was a kid the Bluenose II has been on the back of the Canadian dime. The boat is a Canadian icon. I've been three times to its home port of Lunenburg over the years and finally got to see it on my third visit, AND got spend an afternoon on the water under full sail.

Full disclosure, I shot close to 800 frames that afternoon, many just trying to get the flag fully unfurled in the wind. Love this shot. Spending an afternoon on the water was a highlight of our Maritimes vacation.

As beautiful as the boat is, and immaculately maintained by the mostly summer student crew, it was the smaller bits of the boat that captured my attention.
The hoops/rings are on the main mast are attached to the sail and are manually manipulated as the sail goes up - all while carefully ensuring no fingers are lost during sail raising.
